How to start WBJS preparation from scratch

Most candidates lose their first year to unfocused reading. The West Bengal Judicial Service examination rewards statutory precision far more than it rewards breadth, so the first decision you make should be about sequencing, not about how many books you buy.
Start with the three procedural codes. Read the Bare Act line by line, then attach two or three judgments to each significant section. Once the procedure is fixed in your head, the substantive papers become considerably easier because you already know how a provision is applied in court.
From month four, answer writing must become a daily habit. A well-structured 150-word answer with the correct section number scores better than a page of general discussion. Submit at least four answers a week for evaluation and maintain an error log.
Reserve the last three months for revision cycles and full-length mocks. Nothing new should enter your syllabus in that window — the goal is retrieval speed, not fresh coverage.
