The new criminal codes: what actually changes for aspirants

The transition from the IPC, CrPC and Evidence Act to the new criminal codes is largely a renumbering exercise, but there are substantive changes that examiners have already begun to test.

Build a two-column mapping table for every provision you have already learnt. Knowing that a familiar section now carries a new number is worth more marks than memorising the statement of objects and reasons.

Pay particular attention to timelines introduced for investigation and trial, the expanded use of electronic records, and the provisions on community service as a punishment.
